Fans react as Jaguars set sights on Liam Coen as new head coach

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Jaguars are reportedly zeroing in on Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Liam Coen as their next head coach.

This news comes on the heels of an ESPN report that Coen had initially agreed to a lucrative contract with the Buccaneers, which would have made him the NFL’s highest-paid coordinator.

The Jaguars' coaching search follows the recent firing of head coach Doug Pederson after a challenging 4-13 season. Over his three-year tenure, Pederson led the team to a 22-29 record, with only one playoff appearance.

If Coen’s hiring is confirmed, he will become the fourth head coach since the Jaguars drafted quarterback Trevor Lawrence in 2021.

Fans have been vocal about the potential change, with many expressing optimism.

Eric Brooks, a dedicated Jaguars fan, shared his hopes for the team’s future.

“I hope we get us a good offensive line, so we can get us some good run blocking, some good pass blocking,” Brooks said. “We need the type of blocking that Tom Brady gets, Steve Young. When those guys back up, they get to stay in the pocket.”

Coen’s coaching resume spans 14 seasons, including a notable role as the Los Angeles Rams' offensive coordinator in 2022. He also served as the assistant quarterbacks coach and assistant wide receivers coach, bringing a wealth of experience to the table.

Initially, Coen declined the Jaguars' offer, but ESPN reports indicate that his decision shifted after the team dismissed general manager Trent Baalke. This move is believed to have played a significant role in Coen’s change of heart.

“Who would have thought getting rid of the terrible general manager would get us a young offensive-minded head coach? Wow! The season might be exciting,” commented News4JAX Insider Brandon.

While many fans are hopeful, some remain cautious.

“He’s another good up-and-coming coach; except we do not have the caliber of players for his creative system. He will have to dumb it down, making us still mediocre,” noted David, another Insider.

The consensus among Jaguars fans is that while they have faith in Coen’s abilities, they hope the organization will strengthen the team by acquiring the necessary players to support his coaching style.

As the Jaguars move closer to finalizing their decision, anticipation is building among fans who are eager to see how the new head coach will shape the team’s future.
