JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A rare winter storm is moving closer to Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia, and Duval County officials are preparing for ice that could make it dangerous to drive on the road.

Those who normally have trash pickup on Wednesday will have their garbage collected on Saturday, and the city landfill will be closed Wednesday.
Here’s what we know so far about what will be closed in Duval County:
City Government Offices
The Emergency Operations Center is partially activated.
All City of Jacksonville offices will be closed on Wednesday due to unsafe road conditions in the morning. Essential personnel will report for duty before conditions deteriorate, and non-essential personnel will stay home on administrative leave. City employees can call 630-CITY for updates.
The offices of the county property appraiser and tax collector will also be closed on Wednesday.
JTA
In response to the Winter Storm, all JTA services will run as follows on Wednesday:
- Fixed Route, First Coast Flyer, Connexion, Express Select and ReadiRide will begin operations at 7 a.m.
- The St. John’s River Ferry will begin service from Mayport Village at 7 a.m.
- The Skyway will begin service at 9 a.m.

Duval County Public Schools
According to the Florida Department of Education, Duval County Public Schools (DCPS) will be closed on Wednesday.
Other school closures for Northeast Florida can be found here, and include Baker County, Bradford County, Clay County, Columbia County, Nassau County, Putnam County, and Union County.
St. Johns County said schools will remain open on Wednesday.
Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office
Closures include:
- Police Memorial Building, 501 E. Bay Street
- District 1 Substation, 5258-13 Norwood Ave.
- District 2 Substation, 9119 Merrill Road
- District 3 Substation, 8875 Liberty Ridge Drive, Suite 110
- District 4 Substation, 3726 Blanding Blvd.
- District 5 Substation, 1767 Kings Road
- District 6 Substation, 1680 Dunn Ave.
- All other publicly accessible buildings
Duval County Clerk of Courts
Closures include:
- Duval County Courthouse, 501 W. Adams St
- Beaches Branch, 1543 Atlantic Blvd.
The State Attorney’s Office for Duval, Clay, and Nassau counties will also be closed on Wednesday. Only essential personnel will report for duty.
Jacksonville International Airport
The Jacksonville International Airport announced it will close following its last departure around 8 p.m. Tuesday.
Officials said the airport is expected to reopen on Wednesday at noon. Travelers are encouraged to check flight status with their airlines for the most up-to-date information about their itineraries and for rebooking options.
Baldwin Senior Center
The Baldwin Senior Center will be closed for the rest of the week. Anyone in need of assistance should call 630-CITY or 904-635-5955.
First Coast YMCA
A spokesperson for the YMCA released this statement regarding closures:
In anticipation of the impact of the Winter Storm on Northeast Florida, all First Coast YMCA locations will close at 6:00 pm tonight (Tues., Jan 21) and open late tomorrow (Wed., Jan 22). All programs scheduled for this evening are cancelled as the safety of our staff, members, participants and guests are our top priority

Jacksonville Public Library
The Jacksonville Public Library said all locations will be closed on Wednesday in response to the incoming winter storm.
“Your safety is our primary concern. During the closure, please do not return materials to book drops. There are no overdue fines at Jacksonville Public Library, so you don’t have to worry about due dates during the storm," the library said.
Museum of Science and History
The Museum of Science & History (MOSH) announced it will be closed on Wednesday. “This closure is announced in the interest of MOSH’s staff, members, visitors and collections,” the museum said.
MOSH will reopen at 10 a.m. on Thursday.
Jacksonville Zoo
The Jacksonville Zoo & Gardens said it will not open until noon Wednesday because of the weather.
