JACKSONVILLE – For the national Dr. Martin Luther King Holiday, more than 500 volunteers packed out the Ritz Theater & Museum for a day of service on Saturday.
Duval County continues to push for volunteerism and service, and Saturday is United Way’s MLK National Day of Service Kick-off Rally. This is in partnership with News4JAX and was hosted by our own Brianna Brownlee.
This year, United Way is focused on Economic equality, basic needs, and financial well-being in the areas of Eastside, North Riverside, Robinson Addition, and New Town.
“United Way knows through our ALICE report that 39% of residents struggle to make ends meet. So that’s the important work we do at United Way is connecting people through resources” Sarah Henderson, Vice President of Communications and Marketing with United Way said. “We thought it was a perfect day to go into these underserved communities and celebrate those communities.”
More than 20 projects will be happening, ranging from food distribution and beautification of those communications.
