CAMDEN COUNTY, Fla. – The Camden County chapter of the NAACP hosted a youth pep rally to recognize Martin Luther King Jr. Day to teach children the importance of advocating for themselves.

The organizers also used the event to announce an NAACP Youth Unit to show them how they can change the world.

There was a DJ who played music the children could relate to and had entertainers.

Timothy Bessent Sr., the president of the chapter said making the announcement during an MLK Day event was only right.

“We hope that the next generation can pass down the legacy of and understanding of what the NAACP is all about...that’s the message we want to send out today that you can be great by serving others,” Bessent said.

He said he hopes they have many area children join the group. Anyone interested can email NAACP5177@gmail.com.
