Atlantic Coast High School student dies after being struck by vehicle while waiting at bus stop: principal

‘We are heartbroken by this tragic passing’, the school’s principal said.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – An Atlantic Coast High School student was hit and killed by a vehicle Friday morning while waiting at a bus stop, Dr. Michael George, the principal at Atlantic Coast High School, said.

“It is with profound sadness that I call you this afternoon to share the news of the unexpected passing of one of our students, who was tragically struck by a vehicle earlier this morning while waiting at their bus stop,” a release sent to parents just before 1:30 p.m. said.

Additional details about the incident remain unclear, and News4JAX is actively seeking updates from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

“As a school community, we are brokenhearted by this tragic passing, and our heartfelt condolences go out to the family, friends, and our entire Stingray community during this incredibly difficult time,” George said.

Principal George said specially-trained counselors and social workers will be available on campus to assist students and staff.

“Last piece on my end is just, hug your folks,” George said. “Moments like this emphasize that nothing in life is guaranteed. Make sure the people around you know how you feel about them each and every day.”

This incident marks the third crash this month involving a student being hit by a car, including two incidents in St. Johns County.
