JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A shooting early Friday morning at a Jacksonville gas station left one man dead and two people on the run, police said.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said officers responded to reports of gunfire around 1 a.m. Friday at the Circle K just east of Craven Road on Sunbeam Road.
Officers found a 40-year-old man in the gas station parking lot suffering from gunshot wounds. He died at the hospital.
JSO Sgt. Steve Rudlaff said the man was in the store but when he walked out he got into an argument with two people.
Rudlaff said the argument intensified and the man followed the two people across the parking lot as they continued to exchange words.
During the argument, one of them shot the man, and then they ran off toward the west on Sunbeam Road.
“No vehicle was used. We do know that the two individuals that were observed coming up here that got into a confrontation with the victim were on foot,” Rudlaff said. “They came from the west to the store and they ran off to the westbound direction.”
Since it’s still early in the investigation, Rudlaff couldn’t provide a description of the two people and it’s unclear if they knew the man who was shot.
