Jacksonville community invited to learn about efforts to clean up polluted, pesticide-filled 31-acre Talleyrand site

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – As the cleanup of a contaminated manufacturing site in Jacksonville is underway, the groups tasked with sanitizing the location are looking to hear from the community.

The Environmental Protection Agency and the Multistate Environmental Response will hold multiple sessions for the public to discuss efforts to clean a 31-acre property on Talleyrand Avenue that has been the home to companies specializing in pesticide, fertilizer and herbicide production and storage for over eight decades.

Everyone is invited to join the conversation on Tuesday, Jan. 14.

There will be two in-person sessions at Toon Town on 1726 East Church Street.

The first session is from noon to 2 p.m. The second session begins at 4:30 p.m. and runs to 6:30 p.m.

The remediation process includes capping soil to prevent exposure, solidifying contaminated materials to protect groundwater, and constructing a steel bulkhead to isolate and contain sediment.

Attendees can expect to learn about the cleanup work and environmental investigations.
