Florida National Guard member dies after being hit by SUV on Camp Blanding base

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. – A 38-year-old man and member of the Florida National Guard from Keystone Heights died Friday morning after he was hit by a car on Avenue B on the Camp Blanding military base in Clay County, the Florida National Guard confirmed.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 6:56 a.m. as the man was walking east along Avenue B near Fort Pierce Road.

A 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee, also traveling east, struck him, FHP said. The impact caused the man to come to rest on the right shoulder of the road.

The driver, a 28-year-old woman from Green Cove Springs, was not injured and stopped immediately at the scene.

A Florida National Guard said the man’s family has been notified but did not release his name.

No other details were immediately available.
