CAMDEN COUNTY, Ga. – The Georgia Bureau of Investigation identified the suspect in what is being called a “shooting rampage” that left three people injured, including the suspect, in Camden County Wednesday evening.
The GBI identified the shooting suspect as Rodney Rauls Roundtree, 55, of Camden County.
Just before 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, the Camden County Sheriff’s Office responded to an “active shooter incident” near the Kinlaw Road and Harrietts Bluff Road intersection in Woodbine, Georgia, just west of Interstate 95.
According to the GBI, Roundtree was at a home when he got into an argument with a man that led to Roundtree getting a gun and shooting him.
Officials said Roundtree then left the home, walked down Kinlaw Road and shot at multiple people working at a substation and hit several cars.
Roundtree continued down Kinlaw Road where a man was driving. When the van the man was driving got close enough to Roundtree, he then shot at the van multiple times and hit the driver.
As Roundtree continued walking toward the intersection of Kinlaw Road and Harriets Bluff Road, he was met by law enforcement, and he began shooting at the deputies, according to the GBI.
Deputies returned fire and injured Roundtree, officials said.
According to GBI, Roundtree and the two men were taken to local hospitals for treatment.
Multiple charges against Roundree are expected.
The GBI will conduct an independent investigation. Once complete, the case file will be given to the Brunswick Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for review and prosecution.
