JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. – The new year brings excitement to South Georgia as Jekyll Island hosts its much-anticipated annual treasure hunt.
This two-month-long event invites families to explore the island while enjoying its natural beauty and various trails.

Every January, colorful plastic orbs are hidden across the island, waiting to be discovered. These orbs lead participants on an adventure through hiking paths, beach trails, and biking routes, offering a fun way to connect with nature and the community.
Participants who find an orb can exchange it at the Visitor’s Center for a unique reward: a handmade, glass-blown orb valued at $75. For lucky treasure hunters, this prize is entirely free.
The hunt is open to everyone and does not require an entry fee. However, visitors must pay an $8 toll per vehicle to access the island. The event runs from Jan. 1 through the end of February, providing ample time for families and friends to join the fun.
