ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. – A boil water advisory remains in effect for the Nocatee community after a water main break on Nocatee Parkway, just east of US-1, caused interruptions.
JEA said repairs were completed to the water main on Saturday morning.
Nocatee residents like Virgen Sola have been without water since the incident occurred, and she said the realization happened rather quickly.
“We realized, [after] checking social media, that neighborhoods like 20-mile Coastal Oaks Del Webb, and the 55 plus community, they were all out of water. So we realized, like all of Nocatee was completely out of water.”
She continued, “I texted my teens, and they checked all the faucets and said that we had very low water pressure. And then once the water started running, it completely shut off.”
Sola adds that the lack of water has already forced her to adjust her definition of “normal.”
“We’ve just been eating out all day because we can’t wash our dishes. Anything that we drink is obviously bottles, even the dog’s water,” she said. “So it’s just going to be kind of the new norm for the next two days or so.”
The boil water advisory affects all residents located in Nocatee east of US-1, excluding the Austin Park, Woodland Park, Walden Chase, and Greenleaf Communities.
JEA sent a statement saying a lab usually takes 48 hours to confirm that the water main break didn’t contaminate the water supply.
Once those results come back, they can lift the boil water advisory.
Residents are urged to pay attention to their emails and text messages for updates.
