FLORIDA – The advocacy group Public School Defenders: Duval County (PSD) is pushing back on a statewide contract from the Florida Department of Education that would spend millions on creating a system to review educational materials.
Trinity Education Group, a Maryland-based education technology company, would receive up to $15.6 million over four years to create the system, according to a report from the Tallahassee Democrat.

The PSD called the initiative a “shameful [...] waste of taxpayer dollars.”
Book bans have been a hot topic of conversation throughout several Florida school districts with Clay County topping the state, withdrawing nearly 290 books.
According to the PSD, Florida is the number one state for book bans with more than 4,500 books removed from reading materials.
