JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Bartaco, a taco restaurant chain, has now opened its 1st location in Northeast Florida in Jacksonville’s Riverside/Five Points neighborhood.
The restaurant opened on Friday, despite no formal announcement of a grand opening before. The only sort of announcement made was a series of story posts on Bartaco’s Instagram page Friday evening. Bartaco formally announced the new location Saturday morning on its Facebook page.

Bartaco is located on 1534 Oak Street, in the space of the former Black Sheep restaurant. Black Sheep closed in May after being open for more than 12 years. According to News4JAX news partner, the Jacksonville Daily Record, the restaurant’s business model became unprofitable due to costs after the 2020 Coronavirus pandemic.
Bartaco features bars, kitchens and dining areas on both the ground floor and rooftop. The menu has tacos, rice bowls, street corn, and more. They also feature a variety of alcoholic drinks including margaritas, beer, and wine.
According to the Bartaco website, there are 34 locations in 14 states including six in Florida and four in Georgia. Currently, there are no plans to open another location in Northeast Florida.
According to the restaurant’s information on Google, the restaurant is open:
- Monday-Thursday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
- Friday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
- Saturday from noon to 11 p.m.
- Sunday from noon to 10 p.m.
It will be open on Christmas Eve from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. but it will be closed on Christmas Day.
