After a Jacksonville father of seven was killed, a family is pleading for justice

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The family of Andre Nelson Bell, a 39-year-old father of seven who was shot and killed in March, is hoping the community can help solve his case before the year ends. Bell was found shot in a car in a ditch on Normandy Boulevard.

Nine months after the incident, the family is still searching for answers. A family member, who wishes to remain anonymous due to fear, expressed disbelief that the person responsible for Bell’s death has not been identified.

“Why would you take his life? Why would y’all do this to him?” they said.

The family member spoke by phone from across the street from where Bell died, right in front of the subdivision where he lived. They described Bell as a father who had a 2-week-old child when he died and emphasized that he didn’t deserve this fate.

News4JAX, asked the family member, “What’s this been like for you?”

“Very much scary, hoping it’s not real. It was like very, I was very sad very emotional very hurt like just…so many emotions going through my head," the family member said.

The family member noted that the situation has been hard for the entire family, with some of Bell’s children now in grief counseling. They are hoping someone with information will come forward.

“I would like for them to be behind bars for whoever did this. So his kids can have justice so he can at least get justice because this was a senseless act. He’s a good person, father he had no reason to have his life taken like that,” they said.

The family hopes to find peace this Christmas.

News4JAX reached out to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) about the case.

“This does continue to be an active investigation. We would request anyone having any information pertaining to this incident to contact the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office at 904-630-0500 or via email at JSOCrimetips@JaxSheriff.org,” the agency said in a statement.
