CLAY COUNTY, Fla. – Clay County Fire Rescue Chief Lorin Mock was awarded the 2024 Frank A. Babinec Lifetime Achievement Award on Wednesday, Dec. 10, for his exceptional contributions to firefighters' safety and health.
Mock received the award on December 10, having been named its recipient in August.

The award honors professionals who have significantly impacted firefighters' well-being.
According to a post made on Clay County Fire Rescue’s Facebook page, “Mock’s nearly 50-year dedication includes 15 years in Clay County and 30 years with the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department. He has influenced state security policies as a Florida Domestic Security Oversight Council member and has developed a leadership course for the Florida Fire Chiefs' Association.”
“The Florida Fire Chiefs’ Association (FFCA) offers a special Lifetime Achievement Award to Fire Chiefs and/or Chief Fire Officers for unselfish and meritorious service to the Florida Fire Chiefs' Association with 40 years of service or more to the fire service,” the Florida Fire Chief Association said.
His initiatives include:
- A mental health program for first responders.
- Addressing the opioid crisis through the Community Paramedicine program.
- Distributing over 500 AEDs along with NARCAN.
Additionally, he oversaw the funding and modernization of five fire stations, incorporating health-conscious designs and safety features.
Chief Mock’s legacy in the fire service sets a standard for future practices in Florida.
