JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Reginald Blount will be the next Duval County School Board member to represent District 5.
Blount and Hank Rogers were the top two finishers in the August primary election, earning more votes than the third candidate, Nahshon Nicks.

Blount won with 56% of the vote.
The seat was up for re-election because the current District 5 school board member Warren Jones couldn’t seek re-election since he reached the term limit.

The school district has faced a slew of issues dealing with enrollment, school closures, teacher salaries, teacher misconduct and safety measurements.
[Blount] has plans to address funding issues to increase academic standards, protect children from inappropriate literature and create incentive programs to recruit and retain teachers.
