LULU, Fla. – A Columbia County woman’s front door is blocked and her roof is damaged after a tree fell over during Hurricane Helene.

Residents in Columbia County experienced strong winds and rain from the storm which caused trees and powerlines to fall.
Heather Jamison is one of those residents who experienced that in front of her home.
She described the wind during the storm as a loud train horn.
“The tree hit the top of the roof of the house, and it shook the entire house,” Jamison described. “And I took tornadic protocol, and get me and my minor, handicapped child to the safest place, which is our bathroom without any windows, and cover him and pray.”
The next morning she walked outside to assess the damages.
“This was a shock,” Jamison said. “I was expecting damage, but nothing of this magnitude.”
Not only is her front door blocked off, but the tree has also caused damage to her roof.
“It started leaking early in the wee hours of the morning when the storm had passed through, and I attempted to place a container to catch the water, and the roof fell through almost on top of me,” Jamison explained. “Luckily, I was quick enough to be able to swiftly move, and I have a hole in my roof just right in front of my front door entry.”
She said this has inconvenienced her and her handicapped son because they utilize the front yard for his therapy.
Jamison just hopes to have the debris removed to access the front of her home again.
