JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A dog that was brought to the Jacksonville Humane Society severely malnourished a couple of weeks ago, has been recovering successfully and now lives in a loving temporary home, the shelter said Monday.
In a Facebook post published on Aug. 30, JHS put out a call for help for Blue, a pup that they estimate is 2 years old and who was brought into the shelter two days ago weighing only 17 pounds.

JHS said Blue was found by a kind and caring citizen who took her to the shelter.
“Our veterinary team is doing all that they can to save her life. While it is too soon to know if she is going to make it, she deserves a fighting chance,” the shelter wrote back in August.

Ever since that initial Facebook post, the shelter has been providing updates on Blue’s health, and fortunately, the latest update came with some much-needed positive news.
According to the shelter, on the weekend of Sept. 7, Blue had a low fever and wasn’t interested in her food. After a series of exams, the veterinary team called for emergency surgery where they found and removed plastic remnants from Blue’s stomach.
Blue recovered from her surgery, and her health began to turn a corner, according to the shelter.
As of Sept. 11, Blue has gained four pounds and was able to be discharged from intensive hospital care at JHS.
Now, Blue lives in a loving temporary home with a JHS staff member.
“Blue has been doing fantastic in her foster home - her foster mom reports that Blue follows her wherever she goes, politely sits, and is doing very well with using her puppy pads,” the shelter wrote.
The shelter also thanked community members who donated via her Amazon wishlist and provided her with lots of food and goodies.
“We are inspired by Blue’s progress and by the outpouring of love and support from our community,” the shelter wrote.
