Motorcyclist dead after striking car on Cassat Avenue

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A motorcyclist is dead after crashing into a car on Cassat Avenue around 5:30 p.m. Monday, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

Police said the car was driving south on Cassat Avenue and made a left turn in front of a motorcyclist who was driving north.

The motorcycle struck the front passenger side of the car and the rider was thrown from it, JSO said.

Witnesses told police that the motorcyclist was driving fast.

Jacksonville Fire and Rescue took the rider to a local hospital, where he died.

The driver of the car was taken to the hospital in stable condition and is cooperating with investigators.

JSO said the crash occurred before it started raining.

This is the 74th traffic fatality in Duval County this year and the 13th involving a motorcyclist.
