Demeshia Gainer was shot multiple times outside of a black four-door sedan that was in the parking lot of a Daily’s gas station on Roosevelt Boulevard around 5:30 a.m. on Saturday.

Detectives said they found surveillance footage that showed Gainer arriving at the gas station in a car with a man.

According to Hawkins’ arrest report, surveillance video captured the man getting out of the car and walking away after the shooting, heading south on Roosevelt Boulevard.

Detectives also found a receipt from a check cashing at a nearby food mart, and when they went there, store surveillance video showed Hawkins cashing the check, the report states.

Police also recovered Gainer’s phone from the car, and it contained text messages between her and Hawkins. Family members also told JSO she’d been in a relationship with him, according to the report.

Hawkins is being held on $1-million bond and had a first appearance scheduled for Wednesday.
