This group guides young women towards successful, virtuous paths

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A local group that helps connect young women with the resources is looking to expand. It’s called Girls of Virtue.

“Our mission is to empower and equip young women,” said Della Sellers, Girls of Virtue Founder and President.

A mission that Della Sellers has been on since officially launching the non-profit organization in April of 2020.

“I want to teach our younger generation how to be adults. Money, credit, business, communication skills, conflict resolution, how to deal with trauma, self-defense; I want to empower the younger women in our community to chase their dreams and not be stuck in the situations that they’re in,” said Sellers.

“Girls of Virtue has been such a blessing to my life. Not only by providing me the tools and resources I need to be successful but also instilling in me self-confidence and self-worth,” said Allison Fowler, Girls of Virtue Member.

Throughout the past year, the group has brought young women across Jacksonville together through a variety of programs including self-defense and cooking classes, beach clean ups, kayak trips, financial literacy courses, and much more.

“It has sprouted a lot of great opportunities for our students. They have been exposed to financial workshops, interviewing skills, personal branding, and things of that nature. Things that aren’t taught in traditional high school anymore,” said Catina Thomason, Biscayne High School Vice Principal.

Now, it is looking to expand by hosting its’ first fitness competition this Saturday to increase awareness about the program and raise funds for a new facility.

GoVirtue Throwdown will be Saturday, September 11, 2021, at Black Hive CrossFit in Jax Beach from 7am - 4pm.

“With us going into the high schools I’m able to offer these classes twice a month. With a facility I can open it up every day of the week and make these classes consistent,” said Sellers.

Sellers has these words of encouragement for young women going through .

It’s not permanent. That regardless of what you’ve been through or where you’re at with a little bit of focus and hard work you can make a change. And there’s a lot of people in this world that want to stand beside you and encourage and empower you. If you’re not getting that, please come be a part of the program,” said Sellers.
