JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Investigators with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and a SWAT team were called in after a shooting Monday led to a crash in an Arlington neighborhood.
The scene was on Tidewater Circle North, west of Arlington Road. According to Lt G. Terrell, with the Sheriff’s Office, officers were dispatched at 5:39 p.m. in reference to a traffic crash. He said responding officers discovered that the driver of the vehicle had been shot.
“The victim was sitting in the vehicle. Suspect came out, went back into his home, retrieved a handgun, came back out, started shooting at the victim. The victim fled the area and ultimately crashed around the corner,” Terrell said.
News4Jax obtained doorbell camera video from a neighbor in the area. In the video, yelling can be heard, followed by what sounds like squealing tires and a loud bang.
About a minute later, a man yells: “Call 911.”
Terrell said the man who fired went back into his house.
“We made multiple attempts to try to get the suspect to come out, he refused to come out. We had to have SWAT respond as well as the violent crime unit, and ultimately the suspect was arrested and came out of the house,” Terrell said.
The driver, who Terrell said was shot twice, was said to have non-life-threatening injuries. The name of the man arrested was not released.
It’s unclear what led to the violence.
