BRUNSWICK, Ga. – The Glynn County Police Department is investigating an armed robbery that occurred Sunday at a Brunswick T.J. Maxx.
The robbery began at 151 Golden Isles Plaza when the suspect handed a note to the cashier demanding money while brandishing a firearm, according to the GCPD.

Officers said the suspect fled with about $980.
The suspect was identified as Shannon Melvin Tanner.

On Monday, around 11:39 a.m., GCPD detectives located Tanner’s vehicle on a dirt road near the intersection of Highway 99 and Golden Isles Parkway.
GCPD said that when a detective approached the vehicle, Tanner appeared to accelerate toward the detective’s vehicle, prompting the officer to fire a single shot.
Neither Tanner nor the detective was injured during the encounter, and the GCPD vehicle was not struck, according to police.
Officers said Tanner fled the area in his vehicle, leading to a pursuit.
The pursuit ended when Tanner lost control of his vehicle and crashed on I-95 southbound at mile marker 35.
Tanner was apprehended and transported to Southeast Georgia Health System for injuries sustained in the crash, GCPD said.

Chief Scott Ebner contacted the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) for assistance in investigating the officer-involved shooting.
GBI agents have responded to the scene and are conducting a criminal investigation into the shooting involving the detective.
The Georgia State Patrol investigated the traffic crash involving Tanner.
Additionally, the GCPD Office of Professional Standards and Accountability will conduct an administrative investigation into the officer-involved shooting to determine whether the officer’s actions were in line with department policy.
