GLYNN COUNTY, Fla. – Debris clean-up from the major winter storm in January began for “mainland” Glynn County on Monday.
It will be a single-pass event.
This next step in the debris removal process has been delayed because the county’s mainland debris staging area is currently wrapping up Hurricane Helene debris operations.
To avoid compromising FEMA reimbursement for the Helene debris removal, debris from the winter storm cannot be co-mingled with debris from Helene.
Fortunately, due to lower debris volumes on the mainland and the ability to utilize larger equipment for hauling, it is expected that the mainland debris removal for the winter storm will move quickly.
Debris removal continues for St. Simons Island and is expected to be completed no later than the end of March.
In the meantime, GC Public Works reminds all that in order to expedite the debris clearing process:
- Only organic, storm-related debris – i.e. tree limbs - will be removed. Comingled piles, household trash, tires or construction debris will not be removed during this debris removal operation.
- Debris should not be bagged or mixed in with other garbage or yard waste
- Do not block right of ways ( streets or sidewalks ); put debris at curb.
- The county will make only a single pass for collection of debris from the winter storm.
- The removal project is for the winter storm debris; please do not add to piles and costs with additional yard debris.
This service is limited to residents and businesses of Glynn County only and does not include addresses in the city of Brunswick.
