BRUNSWICK, Ga. – The Brunswick Police Department is investigating a shooting that left a 15-year-old boy critically injured on Friday.
According to information from the police department, officers responded to reports of gunfire on Tillman Avenue around 3:30 p.m. on Jan.24. When they arrived, they found a 15-year-old on the ground with at least one gunshot wound, Assistant Chief Angela Smith with the Brunswick Police Department said.
According to the police, they performed life-saving measures until the EMS arrived. The teenager was airlifted to a medical facility and is in critical condition.
Brunswick Police officers arrested Derrick Donnell Heidt, 21, of Townsend, at around 9:20 p.m. on Friday and are charging him with attempted murder, possession of a firearm during commission of a felony, aggravated assault and discharging a weapon near a public highway, an update from The Brunswick News on Saturday said.
The investigation into the shooting is ongoing. Authorities are asking for the public’s help in gathering information about the incident.
