GBI seeks more information in death of Navy sailor stationed in Jacksonville found in Georgia lake

GEORGIA – The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is looking for community help in an investigation into the death of a 25-year-old Navy sailor, who was stationed in Jacksonville.

A fisherman found Devin Jeter, of Scottsdale, Georgia, dead in the Ocmulgee River near Lumber City on Monday, Nov. 11. The medical examiner determined there were no apparent injuries to his body, but investigators are still waiting to learn his cause of death.

Jeter’s family reported him missing on Nov. 8 after he did not return to work. His last known location was at the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta Airport on Nov. 7, where he rented a 2024 silver Jeep Compass with a Florida license plate of EWAG47.

The GBI said he was headed to Jacksonville in the rented vehicle.

The Jeep has not been located.
