BRADENTON, Fla. – Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced on Thursday that Manatee County will be among the local governments to undergo an audit as part of the state’s DOGE efforts.

Earlier this week, DeSantis and the newly appointed Chief Financial Officer Blaise Ingoglia announced that Broward County and the City of Gainesville will also be among the local governments on “the first round” of jurisdictions that will be under review.

“I worked with leaders in particularly in the Florida Senate, to include in this year’s budget authority for our state DOGE team to go in and to conduct DOGE examinations and oversight of local governments in the state of Florida, the cities, the counties,” DeSantis said.

DeSantis said he will be using his new authority to conduct reviews of data systems, physical premises, and personnel of counties and cities that the state has identified as “worthy of additional attention paid to spending, taxing and management practice.”

“We’ll be doing this through this new authority, which does include granting access to spending records. We’re not limiting our attention to any particular corner of the state,” DeSantis said.

The governor also said he will be announcing more jurisdictions that will be subjected to these reviews in the coming days.

The audits will begin on July 31.
