Gov. DeSantis touts Florida’s education system at homeschool convention in Kissimmee

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis spoke in Kissimmee on Friday at the Florida Parent Educators Association’s Annual Homeschool Convention.

“Parents have the fundamental right to direct the education and upbringing of our children,” DeSantis said.

He also said Florida is the top state for homeschool families.

DeSantis also spoke about the state’s effort to promote civics education, prevent gender ideology from being taught in public schools and protect women’s sports.

We have an obligation that this education, whatever form it takes, from homeschooling to traditional public schools, that we’re doing what we need to do to prepare our students to be citizens of this republic. That they understand the core foundational principals that the United States of America was founded upon. That they have an appreciation of about how those principals are reflected in our founding documents and how they animated key portions in American history," DeSantis said.
