Egg-citing decorating ideas for Easter that won’t break the bank

News4Jax anchor Jennifer Waugh tests out 3 techniques

Every year, News4JAX anchor Jennifer Waugh searches online to find some fun egg decorating ideas to share with The Morning Show viewers.

This week, she picked three ideas to see if they are as easy as they seem, without causing a big mess and without costing too much money.

“I wanted to find something that would be fun for my 4-year-old niece,” she said. “I also wanted something that did not involve real eggs since they are expensive right now.”

Papier-mâché

Supplies:

  • Plastic craft egg(s)
  • Small container of Mod Podge
  • Paintbrush to apply the Mod Podge
  • Various colors of tissue paper

This was so much fun and easy for my niece, Sloan, to get involved. She could do most of this craft without my help. Press play above to watch the video.

Tie-dye

Supplies:

  • Hard-boiled eggs
  • Food coloring (neon is best)
  • Paper towels (half sheets)
  • Plastic container to control the mess
  • Plastic gloves
  • Rubber bands
  • Spray bottle (1 cup water, 2 tbsp. white vinegar)

I loved how these eggs came out, but be sure to wear plastic gloves if you don’t want messy fingers from the food coloring. Click here to see the video.

Nail polish

Supplies:

  • Hard-boiled eggs
  • Easter colored nail polish (inexpensive)
  • Cups of water (room temperature)
  • Nail polish remover (in case you spill)
  • Plastic glove

This will be hard to accomplish with young children. I would suggest teenagers try this one!

Hint: You do not need a lot of water in the cups. If the water is too cold, the nail polish will not float on top. Press play below to see the video.

Have fun!
