JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Be on the lookout for cryptocurrency investment fraud.
FBI Jacksonville says it’s one of the most common and damaging fraud schemes.
Scammers try to convince victims to deposit money into cryptocurrency as a financial investment.
There are reports of people getting scammed through dating sites too. Scammers try to build trust with you and then offer the investment opportunity.
At first, it seems like the investment is making a lot of money, but that tactic is meant to trick victims into thinking the process is legit.
According to the FBI, once you go to withdraw your money, you’ll find that you’re denied or only allowed to make a small withdrawal.
AI made these schemes easier to carry out and harder to detect.
The sad reality is that your money is gone.
If you’re asked to pay a fee, don’t do it.
This type of fraud affects people in all walks of life, all socioeconomic groups, and all demographics.
If you think you’re a victim of investment fraud report it to the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center here.
The FBI might call or email you for more information but will never ask you for money.
When you file your report it’s best to include all of your transactions.
