“We’re all about keeping the downtown experience authentic,” said Lori “LuLu” Huppmann, executive director of Fernandina Beach Main Street, a nonprofit dedicated to promoting and supporting downtown businesses. “I try to buy everything I need right here.”

Huppmann’s passion for Centre Street shines as she strolls through the area, pointing out the one-of-a-kind shops that define the downtown scene.

Shop local, stay unique

Centre Street is home to a curated mix of niche stores. There’s an olive oil shop offering gourmet blends, cozy bookstores for literary lovers, and even a year-round Christmas store full of holiday cheer.

One of the most calming stops on the strip? The Lavender Store.

The minute you walk in, the scent of lavender fills the air. Bath products, bug repellents, and even snacks are all made from the versatile herb.

“Lavender is one of the most used plants in the world,” said Pam, the owner, who moved to Fernandina a few years ago. “And the locals here? They’re incredibly supportive.”

It’s not just the products that make Centre Street special—it’s the people.

“I think the secret sauce is our friendliness,” Pam added. “Even new employees are surprised by how warm everyone is, just walking down the street.”

Locals and tourists alike echo the same sentiment.
