Clay County deputy delivers after DoorDash driver arrested

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. – When the Sheriff’s Office shows up at your door, it’s usually to deliver bad news.

But a former News4JAX director and her husband had a very different encounter Tuesday night when a Clay County deputy brought a special delivery to their door.

And it was all caught on camera. (Press play above to watch)

The couple had ordered from Steak and Shake -- but the DoorDash delivery was taking longer than they expected.

Then there was a knock on the door, and as they were about to open it, they heard Deputy Joshua Byrne call out “Sheriff’s Office!”

When they opened the door, Byrne said, “I know this is really weird, but this is your DoorDash order,” and handed over their to-go bags.

They were a little bewildered until Byrne explained.

“The driver ended up going to jail,” he said.

But it turns out they could see that for themselves when they checked the app.

It said “Your Dasher is nearby” -- but it marked the driver at the Clay County Jail in Green Cove Springs.

Byrne didn’t say why the driver was arrested, but News4JAX learned later from the Sheriff’s Office that the driver was pulled over for expired tags and was arrested for probation violation.

The couple was grateful the deputy went above and beyond during his shift and decided to deliver their order himself so they could enjoy dinner.

Definitely five stars for law enforcement community relations.
