Position Overview

As a Special Projects Producer, you will play a pivotal role in creating and delivering compelling news specials and segments across multiple platforms. Using dynamic writing, shooting, editing, and producing skills, you’ll develop timely and impactful content that reflects the interests and needs of our community. This role demands a blend of creativity, editorial judgment, and project management abilities to produce high-quality journalism that resonates with our audience.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, develop, and produce a variety of special projects, including but not limited to parades, weather specials, investigations, station-sponsored community events, and more, ensuring cross-platform compatibility.
  • Utilize the latest editing and photography tools to tell engaging stories, incorporating creative graphics and data visualization to enhance storytelling.
  • Engage in social listening and leverage independent sources to develop original content, pitching ahead to coordinate impactful storytelling.
  • Write and post content across all digital and social platforms, ensuring alignment with consumer needs and expectations.
  • Shoot, write, and edit packages, managing multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining high standards of quality and accuracy.
  • Foster a feedback/engagement loop with the audience, removing barriers between the community and the station, and establishing clear calls to action.
  • Showcase talent outside of the studio, creating opportunities for on-air personalities to share their expertise and connections within the community.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

key qualifications

  • Proven experience in producing news specials or related content, with a strong portfolio demonstrating creative storytelling across platforms.
  • Proficient in photojournalism, editing, and using content management systems including: Edius, and/or Adobe Premier, INews, ENPS and media storage systems.
  • Experience with Grass Valley a plus.
  • Ability to juggle, prioritize multiple projects, and perform well under pressure, meeting deadlines for television and digital platforms.
  • Excellent time management and interpersonal communication skills, thriving in both independent and team environments.
  • Energetic and positive attitude, contributing to a productive team environment and fostering community connections.
  • Demonstrated ability to generate creative, engaging content-driven live shots and special segments.
  • Must be willing to travel as needed and work a flexible schedule, including filling in on all shifts, weekends, and holidays.

preferred qualifications

  • Creative abilities in graphic creation and data visualization to underscore key information for viewers.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field.
