It’s a hot monday on tap with a few showers and storms possible

We’re starting the week with plenty of sunshine and some serious summer heat. Afternoon highs will climb into the mid to upper 90s inland, while the beaches stay in the upper 80s to near 90. With the humidity, it could feel as hot as 105 degrees, so take it easy outdoors and stay hydrated. Most of Monday will remain dry, but a few showers and thunderstorms could develop late in the afternoon and evening. Any stronger storm could produce frequent lightning, heavy rain and sudden wind gusts approaching 60 mph. Storms should fade before midnight, with overnight lows settling into the mid 70s.

Tuesday brings a better chance for widespread showers and thunderstorms, especially between 2 and 5 p.m. Rain chances climb to around 70 percent, and storms may continue into the evening. Highs will reach the lower 90s before storms begin cooling some neighborhoods down. Scattered afternoon storms remain likely Wednesday, with rain chances near 60 percent and highs around 92.

The familiar summer pattern continues through the end of the week and into the weekend. Thursday through Saturday will feature partly to mostly sunny skies, highs in the lower 90s and a 40 to 50 percent chance of mainly afternoon and evening thunderstorms. Overnight lows will remain warm and muggy in the mid 70s.
