Weak Atlantic system near Bermuda shows little development

System in Northeastern Atlantic could briefly acquire subtropical traits

. (.)

The one we have been watching in the Northeastern Atlantic remains as a non-tropical area of low pressure, several hundred miles north-northeast of the Azores.

This system could acquire some subtropical or tropical characteristics this weekend while it moves east-southeastward at 10 to 15 mph toward Portugal and northwestern Spain.

The opportunity for tropical or subtropical development should end by Sunday night.

The formation chance through 48 hours is 20 percent and through 7 days is also 20 percent.

The next spot to watch is in the Central Subtropical Atlantic. This weak area of low pressure, located a few hundred miles east-southeast of Bermuda, is producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms.

If this system develops, it is expected to do so slowly as it drifts west-southwestward through Sunday, then turns northward early next week.

The formation chance through 48 hours is 10 percent and the formation chance through 7 days is 20 percent.
