Good morning!
We’re starting off warm and muggy across Jacksonville, and the heat will be the big weather story today and especially as we head deeper into the week.
Expect a mix of sun and clouds through the morning with temperatures climbing quickly, reaching the lower 90s this afternoon. With plenty of humidity in place, it will feel more like 103° to 107°, so take the heat seriously if you’ll be outside for any length of time.
The hottest stretch of the day will be from roughly noon through 6 p.m.
A few scattered thunderstorms will also be possible later this afternoon into the evening, particularly as the sea breeze gets going. These will be the typical summertime variety—hit-or-miss, but capable of producing brief heavy rain, lightning and gusty winds.
And this is really just the beginning of the hotter stretch.
The National Weather Service is highlighting the potential for Heat Advisories later this week, with Jacksonville’s heat index forecast around 106° today, 107° Tuesday and Wednesday, then near 109° Thursday and Friday and potentially 110° Saturday.
Remember, a Heat Advisory becomes possible once those “feels-like” temperatures reach around 108° or higher.
Stay hydrated, take frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning, and of course never leave children or pets inside a vehicle.
