Hundreds of Duval County Public Schools students could face bus service impacts when school starts Monday as contract negotiations between Durham School Services and its drivers’ union continue.

One of the two vendors that run school bus routes for Duval County Public Schools could be short hundreds of drivers when school begins on Monday if the vendor and the drivers can’t come to a contract agreement.

A woman who was among the bystanders who rushed to help after a school bus full of kindergartners was rear-ended by a semi Thursday morning told News4JAX she was thankful the injuries weren’t more severe.

According to video and photos shared with News4JAX, a school bus was rear-ended by a semi on Thursday morning while crossing train tracks on Zoo Parkway, not far from Imeson Park Boulevard.

Summer vacation is about to start, but one of the bus contractors for Duval County Public Schools is already working to make sure there will be enough drivers to get students to class in the fall.
