ATLANTA Georgia has picked up another high-profile transfer to compete for its starting quarterback job, landing former Southern California starter JT Daniels. Daniels started for the Trojans in 2018, but lost his job to Kedon Slovis after going down last season with a knee injury. He announced Thursday that hes heading to Georgia, which is seeking a replacement for three-year starter Jake Fromm. Daniels won the starting job again out of camp last summer in new offensive coordinator Graham Harrells up-tempo scheme, but the sophomore tore a ligament in his knee in the Trojans season opener against Fresno State. Slovis stepped into the starting job and excelled in Harrells offense as a freshman, passing for 3,502 yards with 30 touchdowns and nine interceptions.

Mandarin tops Atlantic Coast in Bold City Showcase
The Mustangs got three touchdowns from Carson Beck, but rival Atlantic Coast made them work for every bit of their 28-12 win in the Publix Bold City Showcase on Saturday. Beck, the state's reigning Mr. Football, had touchdown passes of 22 and 43 yards to Jaylen Smith, and added a 1-yard touchdown plunge. Jordyn Williams had an acrobatic interception in the end zone to stop one Mustangs drive and Josh Williams had another. The Mustangs took away every bit of Atlantic Coast's rushing attack and made life difficult on quarterback Ridge Jacobs. The Mustangs picked off two passes, including the clincher by Uriel Richardson that allowed Mandarin to hold on to a 21-12 lead.

JACKSONVILLE, FLA - Week 1 of high school football is in the books and Ill throw out a few thoughts on the week in a Snaps notebook following games. The fact that the Tigers put up yards without much resistance (519, according to the Florida Times-Union) is telling. The Christians have been a state power for probably as long as anyone currently involved with high school football can remember. And Bolles is Bolles, owner of a state-record 11 championships. The Bolles icon won 466 career games, sixth-most in high school history, and he was honored with a special plaza during the game.

Mandarin, Sandalwood get national TV game in October
ESPN officially announced on Tuesday that the Oct. 18 game between Mandarin and Sandalwood would be shown on ESPNU. Both were named Elite 11 selections, becoming just the third and fourth players in area history to earn the prestigious honors. Sandalwood is 1-0 on national TV under coach Adam Geis, beating DeLand 28-14 in an October 2012 game on ESPN2. Mandarin coach Bobby Ramsay is 1-1 on national TV games, losing to Buford (49-7) in 2011 on ESPNU when he was the coach at Yulee. Ramsays Hornets crushed Belle Glade Glades Day 42-6 in an ESPNU game in September 2012.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Carson Beck and Jeff Sims are officially Elite. Both Beck and Sims earned spots on the final Elite 11 team, becoming the first area quarterbacks from outside of St. Johns County to make the prestigious list. While a handful of area players have qualified for the Elite 11 over the years, only two have garnered elite status when all was said and done. Bartram Trails Kyle Parker followed as an Elite 11 finisher in 2007.
