Record Winds Hit JAX While Spring Temps Lift Weekend

Beaches remain under high rip current risk through weekend

. (.)

Variable cloud cover with seasonal temperatures and a lighter northeast breeze are a nice way to kick off a weekend.

The wind gusts so far today have been in the 20-mph range. Sustained winds have been in the teens along the beaches. JAX, Craig Executive Airport and Gainesville saw record-breaking wind on Wednesday. The National Weather Service Office in Jacksonville reported that JAX recorded the all-time windiest April day with average wind speeds of 22 mph. At Craig Executive, a 52-mph wind gust of 52 mph was the 5th strongest recorded for the month of April and Gainesville ranked 6th for the month with an average wind speed of 15.6 mph.

The onshore flow continues, although much lighter this weekend. This will keep a High Risk of Rip Currents along our beaches this weekend.
