Colder weather returns after front moves through

Mid Latitude Cyclone approaches this weekend (NEWS4JAX 2026)

Jacksonville International Airport broke a record high today by reaching 89 degrees. The previous record was 86 degrees set back in 1961.

The pattern of warmer-than-average highs will end over the weekend as a front approaches.

Friday evening temperatures will remain in the low to mid 60s, with breezy winds coming from the southwest and partly cloudy skies. Rain will occur for parts of Southeast Georgia through sunset.

Saturday temperatures will peak into the upper 70s to low 80s as winds increase from the southwest with rain beginning in the late afternoon. Accumulations for Southeast Georgia will range from a quarter to half an inch. While accumulation in Northeast Florida will be closer to a trace to a quarter of an inch. Rain continues through Sunday. When storms arrive late Saturday afternoon, gusty winds, small hail and isolated storms are possible. The more intense storms will remain near Central Georgia.

Despite rain and storms, the current drought status will remain extreme or severe for most of Southeast Georgia and Northeast Florida.

Storms will stay north of the warm front, closer to Central Georgia. However, Saturday rain will begin in the late afternoon for Southeast Georgia and Northeast Florida. Rain will continue through Sunday morning.

LOOKING AHEAD

After the front passes, temperatures will return to average on Sunday and then drop 15 to 20 degrees below average to begin the work week.
