Warmth returns to Northeast Florida, Southeast Georgia ahead of cold front bringing chilly temperatures next week

King tides and supermoon lead to flooding concerns

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Hey friends, if you’ve been loving these nearly perfect days, you’re in luck through the weekend. We’re looking at highs in the 80s all the way through Sunday. It’s the kind of weather that makes you want to skip work, take the boat out, and soak up some sun—but, okay, maybe don’t tell your boss I said that!

By Monday, things will change as a strong cold front is expected to roll through. That means we’ll likely see highs drop down into the 60s to start next week, and wind chills could even dip into the 30s by early Monday morning. If you’ve been waiting for sweater weather, your time is coming soon.

Morning temperatures have been a little chilly, but by afternoon we’re pushing close to 78 degrees—just beautiful!

King tides and flooding risk

While the weather is cooperating, I do want you to pay attention to the tides. With the supermoon and those king tides, we’re seeing tidal flooding in some low-lying areas. There’s also a rip current risk at the beaches, so keep an eye on the flags if you head out to the water.

High tide hits Jacksonville Beach at 7:11 a.m., and St. Johns River at 9:08 a.m. If you travel around Riverside or St. Augustine, you’ve probably noticed some roads just get too flooded to pass during these peak times—it really does get that high. Just be careful and never try to drive through those spots.

Daily details: Temperatures and skies

Each day through the weekend, morning lows have been starting in the 40s and 50s, but afternoons shoot quickly into those upper 70s and low 80s. Skies are staying mostly clear, and rain chances remain super low—just a slight 10 to 20 percent into Friday and possible quick pop-ups Saturday and Sunday. The wind has been calm, with little in the way of gusts, making for an easy day if you’re outside or at the park with the kids.

We have this window of beautiful, warm weather right now, but cooler air is likely around the corner. And of course, keep an eye on those tides and use caution if you’re headed out near the water.
