As July 4th approaches, News4JAX is keeping a close eye on a weather disturbance over Florida that’s expected to bring rain and cause possible travel delays right through the heart of the holiday week.
According to The Weather Authority forecast, the rainmaker could impact plans beginning Wednesday and lasting through Friday, which includes the peak of holiday travel.
Holiday travel is always a challenge, and this midweek storm could make it even tougher, so travelers are encouraged to pack extra patience or reconsider their trip timing if possible.
Rain, flooding, and travel impacts
The Weather Authority team reports a 20% chance that the tropical disturbance currently over Florida might develop further over the next seven days.
The area of concern has been highlighted in yellow on Exact Track 4D’s tropical outlook, focused primarily on the Florida peninsula.
Whether or not this system turns into a stronger storm, forecasters say it’s still expected to deliver heavy rain throughout the region.
The highest risk for flooding and the most intense rainfall is expected between Wednesday and Friday.
That means anyone planning to hit the road or visit family for the holiday should pay especially close attention to the forecast and be flexible with travel plans.
Unsettled week ahead
Monday’s local forecast calls for scattered showers, especially in areas south of Gainesville.
Rain showers are expected to develop later this afternoon, with heavier activity likely between 4 to 6 p.m., and more wet weather continuing into the evening.
The unsettled, summer-like pattern looks set to repeat daily this week, so keeping an umbrella handy is a smart move.
Exact Track 4D futurecast graphics show a series of rain bands moving through the region and temperatures ranging from the low 70s in the morning to the high 80s in the afternoon.
As the week progresses, rain chances remain elevated each day, peaking as the disturbance moves through midweek.
