In the town of Welaka in Putnam County, voters will be asked to approve a proposed revision to the town’s charter.
According to a document from the town, Welaka has operated under its current 1947 charter for 79 years. The proposed charter would replace the 1947 charter in its entirety, with the exception of the description of the town’s boundaries and jurisdictional authority, which state law does not permit a charter amendment to change. The document outlines some of the other differences, including:

Shall the 1947 special act charter of the Town of Welaka be repealed and replaced by a revised Town Charter, retaining the Town’s corporate boundaries and jurisdicational authority, and providing for a five-member council of four council members and an elected mayor serving staggered two-year terms subject to term limits; a Council President, a Town Clerk, Chief of Police, and Town Attorney; and provisions governing elections, financial management, initiative, referendum, ethics, and charter amendment?
