JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Looking for a safe way to raise money to support healthcare workers during the COVID-19 pandemic, Adarsh Aratikatla along with classmate Javier Neret came up with the idea of using a drive-in movie theater to help Wolfson Children’s Hospital. After months of planning, Aratikatla, an incoming senior at the Bolles School and co-founder of the Wolfson Children’s Hospital Club, is planning to host the first movie showing in an empty parking lot at The Markets at Town Center. “I think this will be a fun event where people can bring their families and also you can watch a movie. None of the movie theaters are open right now so it’ll be a fun experience.”The group plans to show “Back to the Future” to about 60 people who donated nearly $800 to Wolfson Children’s Hospital. The group plans to show classic movies like “Goonies” and “Ferris Buller’s Day Off.”The group is not selling tickets for the events, but they are asking for free-will donations.

Pantazi was in the hospital two weeks ago with his 17-year-old son Dallas who was diagnosed with a vaping related illness. Tom Pantazi said Dallas did have asthma before, but it was never as severe as it is now. The Florida Department of Health reports 68 cases of vaping related illnesses in the state and at least one death. But with an estimated 1 in 4 high school students admittedly vaping, Moody said they can not wait. Though none of the vaping companies being investigated are in Northeast Florida, there are confirmed cases of vaping related illnesses in the area.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Santa made a stop in Jacksonville slightly ahead of schedule Thursday and handed out toys to the kids at Wolfson Children's Hospital. The hospital's annual toy drive included a visit from Jolly Old St. Nick in his red velvet suit with his sleigh of toys in tow. He went door-to-door at Wolfson Childrens Hospital, handing out toys to unsuspecting kids. During the final push Thursday morning, community members dropped off 2,598 toys outside Wolfson Childrens. You can still donate monetarily to the toy drive through the end of the month at christmasjuly.com, and you can give toys year-round on the Wolfson Childrens Hospital Amazon registry.

The big donation day at Wolfson Children's Hospital is Thursday. Or you can make a financial donation to Wolfson Children's Hospital for the event. When a child is in the hospital, play is an important part of the healing process, the hospital said. "Together, we can bring them comfort to brighten their day," the hospital wrote on its website.
