JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A round of showers and storms that moved across our area prompted a Weather Authority Alert Day on Sunday. People in that area saw hours of rain, with amounts up to an inch. Clay, Putnam and St. Johns counties were under a tornado warning for parts of Sunday afternoon as showers and stormes pushed through. There were some reports of downed trees near State Road 13A and some flooding on County Road 65. AdThe Weather Authority Alert Day ended shortly before 6 p.m., and showers will fade Sunday night.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Because of expectations for extreme weather impacting the Jacksonville area late Thursday, Duval, Clay, St. Johns and Ware counties have canceled all after school activities, including extended-day programs. Parents and guardians are asked to make sure children can get home safely from their bus stopsStudents who are normally walkers will be released as usual. “The weather forecast for this evening is expected to bring conditions unsafe for outdoor events and student transportation.”Clay County, St. Johns and Ware counties have also canceled all after-school programs and News4Jax is hearing from some private schools that are also canceling after-class activities. The University of North Florida, Florida State University and Florida A&M campuses in Tallahassee are also closing early and canceling evening classes. As of 11 a.m., no other school systems in WJXT’s viewing area have posted any announcements of closing early, but some individual schools have contacted News4Jax about canceling after-school activities.
