Sesame Workshop — the nonprofit, educational organization behind “Sesame Street” — will later this month air the half-hour anti-racist special "The Power of We” and hopes families will watch together. The special defines racism for younger viewers and shows how it can be hurtful. “Sesame Street,” which last year celebrated its 50th anniversary, has a history of explaining the world to children, tackling everything from foster care to substance abuse. Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit organization behind the series, will produce five new 35-episode seasons for HBO Max starting in spring of 2020, WarnerMedia announced Thursday. HBO Max will also air annual "Sesame Street" specials and four new related series including a late night TV talk show called "The Not Too Late Show with Elmo." HBO Max subscribers will also have access to the 50-year library of the show. This landmark deal perfectly illustrates the type of quality programming HBO Max will offer across every demographic."

Sesame Workshop via CNNWASHINGTON (CNN) - Big Bird and a big name in acting will be among those on hand when the Kennedy Center celebrates this year's honorees. R&B group Earth, Wind & Fire, actress Sally Field, singer Linda Ronstadt, "Sesame Street" and conductor and musical visionary Michael Tilson Thomas were named the 2019 honorees on Thursday. "Sesame Street" is the first television program to receive the honor. "In this class of Honorees, we are witnessing a uniquely American story: one that is representative of so many cultural touchstones and musical moments that make our nation great," said Kennedy Center President Deborah F. Rutter in a statement. "The 42nd Annual Kennedy Center Honors" will air on December 15 on CBS.

For fans of Julia, the 4-year-old Muppet with autism on “Sesame Street,” you are in luck. Autism Speaks, a national advocacy organization that sponsors research and conducts awareness activities, has launched a new campaign in conjunction with "Sesame Street" that features Julia and aims to promote early autism screening. The campaign consists of digital, print and resources available in English at ScreenForAutism.org and in Spanish at DeteccionDeAutismo.org. The content highlights the importance of early screening. “There is considerable work to be done in overcoming obstacles that may delay a diagnosis -- the first step toward improved future outcomes,” said Angela Geiger, CEO of Autism Speaks.
