Out of work restaurant employees almost breathed a sigh of relief when the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation announced a plan to help out its industry workers. The foundation created the Restaurant Employee Relief Fund (RERF) which would provide $500 to any restaurant workerwho has been adversely impacted by COVID-19, financially. The application process was set to open April 6 but never did. Almost immediately after opening the application process, extremely high user volume overwhelmed the application platform. National Restaurant Association Educational FoundationRERF applications are closed while the foundation works to resolve its technical issues.

Editor's Note: News4Jax is aware that the Restaurant Employee Relief Fund website was not working this morning. We have reached out to the National Restaurant Association for comment. It’s hard to say which industry in the United States has suffered the most adverse effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. At least 110,000 more businesses are expected to shutter in the next month, according to estimates by the National Restaurant Association. The National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation created the Restaurant Employee Relief Fund which will provide $500 grants to restaurant industry employees who have been adversely impacted by COVID-19, financially, whether through a decrease in wages or loss of employment.
