JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Charleston Southern is mourning the loss of football player Joe Bradshaw, a former star at Nease High School. Bradshaw, a freshman receiver with the Bucs, died off campus on Thursday night, the school said in a release. “On behalf of the Charleston Southern Football ministry, we offer our condolences to the Bradshaw and Edwards’ family regarding the untimely passing of an exceptional young man, Joe ‘Jo Jo’ Bradshaw,” head coach Autry Denson said in a statement. Jo Jo was a phenomenal young man, son, student, and teammate. He was a preferred walk-on at Charleston Southern.

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. – St. Johns County School District leaders trying to fill open teaching positions are now offering extra money for substitutes willing to take certain jobs. According to a message from the district’s head of human resources, St. Johns County schools need to fill classroom teacher vacancies at specific times and specific places, like at Nease High School, and they’re now offering extra money as an incentive. The head of the St. Johns County Education Association says she believes the district needed this incentive program because the district was already short on substitutes and fewer are stepping in because of the coronavirus pandemic. But having a strong network of substitutes was a key strategy at the beginning of the year school year, according to St. Johns County Superintendent Tim Forson. ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. – More than 257 volunteers, mostly students, helped clean up GTMNERR (Guana) Beaches in South Ponte Vedra Beach on Sunday. Some of the schools represented were Ponte Vedra High School, Nease High School, Greenwood High School, Landrum Middle School, Fletcher Middle School, Palm Valley Academy, Ocean Palms Elementary, as well as Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – Every member of the Nease High School dance and freshman volleyball teams are in quarantine due to possible exposure to the coronavirus, the district confirmed Friday. According to a district spokesman, both teams were quarantined this week along with other students at the Ponte Vedra Beach school after contact tracing was completed. Nease High School sophomore Keira Sargent has friends on both teams. Jordan McGovern is also a Nease High school sophomore. He said all his friends at school have been talking about the classmates who are forced to quarantine.

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. Plans for a new St. Johns County high school set to be built off County Road 210 received final approval from the school board Tuesday morning. High School III will serve students in fast-growing northeast St. Johns County and will be located off Beachwalk Boulevard within the Twin Creeks development. After the first five days of the new school year, the district estimates there has been a 5% growth in high school enrollment in the county with a 7.3% growth at Bartram Trail High School and 7.8% growth at Nease High School. We definitely still need another high school, even given high school HHH is on its way to being fully constructed.The district plans to open High School HHH, located near World Golf Village, for the 2021-2022 school year and High School III will open one year later for the 2022-2023 school year. School board member Tommy Allen was the only board member present to vote against the plans, citing concerns about entrances and exits.

The 11th Circuit could become the first federal appeals court to issue a binding ruling on the issue, which has arisen in several states. “This case is only about me, a boy, being allowed to use the boys’ bathroom,” Adams said after the hearing, echoing what Borelli told Pryor. “Differences between the sexes are real and it necessitates this kind of separation between the sexes,” lawyer Jeff Slanker told judges. Borelli told judges the district’s policy would “heap discrimination on transgender students.”“There is no recognized right in the law to not have to share space with transgender students,” she argued.
