That means everyone over the age of 6 must continue wearing a face mask or face covering while in public indoor spaces, including employees and customers at businesses within city limits. There are, however, exceptions for certain cases such as people dining at a restaurant or a patient visiting the dentist. The order does not apply to first responders and other public safety personnel. In September, the Nassau County Board of Commissioners voted 3-2 to halt its own countywide mask mandate, except within county buildings.

Notably, the board left the door open to bringing back the mask mandate in the event that COVID-19 cases spike.

The order had been set to expire Wednesday, but after some discussion, the Board of Commissioners approved the 30-day extension. According to the county, several commissioners said they had been contacted by residents on both sides of the issue, but “they ultimately believe that the health and safety of residents is a priority.”The county said commissioners will be working with the health department and emergency management to establish criteria for lifting the mandate. The Nassau County Board of Commissioners is considering an ordinance that would ban the commercial sale of dogs, cats and rabbits, allowing only exceptions for animal shelters, animal welfare organizations and local breeders with certification. The ordinance is aimed at preventing the location of puppy mills, kitten factories and rabbit mills in Nassau County. Under the ordinance, the sale of the domestic pets on the side of the road and at flea markets would be prohibited. Leaders with the Nassau Humane Society said they believe the ordinance is a great idea to help prevent animal cruelty and illegal breeding. We dont need people out there breeding dogs in their backyards, trying to sell them, said Amanda Holden, intake manager at the Nassau Humane Society.

The vote comes after some Nassau County residents expressed concern that the arcades were bringing more crime to their neighborhoods, saying they had seen an uptick since Duval County shutdown adult arcades in October. We don’t want to be known as the arcade county of Florida,” Seber Newsome III, who has voiced opposition to the arcades, told News4Jax. Since 2015, according to the Sheriff’s Office, there have been 25 armed robberies at Nassau County businesses, six of which were game room armed robberies. Former state Rep. George Crady spoke out against the closure of adult arcades.
