PALATKA, Fla. – Farm Share will hold a handful of food distributions in Northeast Florida this week. Since March 2020, Farm Share said it has held thousands of food distribution statewide and distributed nearly 90 million meals related to its Covid-19 relief efforts. “It’s scary how consistent this has all been,” said Matthew Gallen, Facility Manager of Farm Share of Jacksonville. “We’ve waited for it to slow up and it’s just not happening.”At each food distribution, people receive fresh produce and non-perishables to get them through several days. The food distributions are drive-thru only to reduce contact amid the pandemic.

From this, Jones donated 852 turkeys to the Jacksonville Salvation Army. The work now carries over into December as the Salvation Army gears up for the next holiday campaign. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The City of Jacksonville reminded Duval residents on Twitter of a free, drive-through food distribution happening today. The Catholic Charities ‘Food Pantry at the Jessie’ is in partnership with Farm Share and the Jessie Ball DuPont Fund. The drive-thru distribution happens every Tuesday and Thursday from 9 am - 3 pm, at the Jessie Ball Dupont Center at 40 East Adams Street. The groups involved say they have already served tens of thousands of families in need.

To combat this problem, Farm Share has teamed up with Children’s Home Society of Florida, and the Clay County School district to hold a monthly recurring food bank for families. Every third Thursday for the next 8-months families in Clay County can pick up fresh produce, meat, milk, and other food items for free. The food bank is held from 5-6:30 p.m. at Wilkinson Junior High School. It’s meant to help families in food deserts get access to quality food throughout the year. Any food leftover after each giveaway will be stored at the junior high school, through its kitchen shelves program.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. More than 1,000 local families received food on Saturday during a 'Truck to Trunk' distribution at Community Health Outreach. The organization teamed up with Farm Share and the Rotary Club of North Jacksonville to provide groceries to families. Charles Green, the manager of the food pantry at Community Health Outreach, said the food pantry typically serves about 500 families a week. However, during the pandemic he said the need has increased to between 600 and 700 families. "Especially when you have families coming in who have lost income, or they don't have any income and yet they're able to come here."

Hundreds of boxes of food were distributed Saturday at Mayport Elementary with help from Farm Share, members of the Duval County Public Schools District and Jacksonville City Council. The drive was to help families impacted by COVID-19. Within 90 minutes, hundreds of boxes of food were gone. Elizabeth Anderson, a member of the Duval County School Board, said shes thankful for the communitys helping hand. I think people think about the beaches being a more affluent area, Anderson said.
